Our Adult Sunday School classes offer a convenient opportunity to meet other church members and to learn about the Christian faith. Classes meet at 9:30 am and 11:00 am and offer a variety of topics, learning formats, and sizes. At both times you will find classes for young families, mixed ages, and senior adults. Perspectives
Class maintains “perspective” as they bid long-time teacher farewell
They began as a small group meeting in out of the way rooms and temporary trailers at the old church location on Panther Creek Drive. That was over 12 years ago. As the years passed and a permanent room was found in our new building, The Perspectives Class evolved and grew. Today, they’re a thriving adult Sunday School class learning together and being challenged to think more deeply about issues by their teacher David Hill.
In May, the class continued to evolve as they bid farewell to David, who had faithfully served their class since its inception. He is moving to Alabama with his wife, Sue, to be near family and to begin a new position with the University of Auburn.
“We held a going away party for David and Sue in May and over 70 class members attended. Some of us had been in the class from the beginning and others at the party were fairly new to the class. No matter the length of class attendance or the topic studied, David touched each person deeply during the years because he was committed to revealing God’s guidance and love in every lesson, and then helping to place us into the story,” said Steve Powell, class president. “As a result, almost every person in the class is involved in one or more areas of ministry in the church and community, from choir members and communion stewards to working with prisoners in Kairos and abused children at CASA . David leaves a great legacy and he and Sue will be missed by all.”
Class members, many of whom have great experience in facilitating Bible studies, have stepped up during this time of transition and will share rotation in leading class discussions. In fact, they have their schedule planned out through the summer and into the fall:
- July 5 – August 9 – book study, What’s So Amazing About Grace? by Phillip Yancey
- August 16 - Sept. 6 – Study of the canonization and history of the Bible with a review of one their member’s personal collection of old/rare Bibles.
- Beginning Sept 13 – Old Testament study of Psalm 23
The Perspectives class, which primarily consists of adults ages 45+, welcomes new members to join any time. The class meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in Room D208.
