School Profile

Perhaps one of the most important decisions parents make is the selection of their children’s first school. A positive experience in the early childhood years sets the tone for the school years to follow. There are many factors to consider such as school philosophy, appropriate curriculum and staff qualifications, as well as practical matters such as convenience and schedule. But above all, the needs of the individual child must be considered.

Our goal at Children of The Woodlands is to meet each child’s social, intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual needs in an atmosphere of love and caring.

We strive to encourage your child’s positive self-esteem and individuality, while fostering respect for others and the world around him.

As an outreach program of The Woodlands United Methodist Church, the Weekday School offers a Christian environment. Daily activities provide each child opportunities to grow in awareness of the love of God.

Our classrooms are designed with children in mind. Research has shown that children need to follow their natural dispositions. They need to explore, wonder, question, create and play. The developmentally appropriate curriculum at Children of The Woodlands is based on the principle that children construct knowledge from actual experiences in the environment.

Classrooms for all ages are set up with learning centers that provide educational experience at many levels. Beginning language, math and science skills are introduced within the Library Center, the Writing Table, the Sensory Table or other science centers, the Block Center, and various manipulatives such as games and puzzles. Important problem solving skills and social emotional learning takes place as children work individually or in small groups. Creativity and self-expression are nurtured through dramatic play, music, and open-ended art experiences. Outdoor play and structured motor activities enhance gross mother development.

Our teachers are all experienced and trained in early childhood education and are chosen for their ability to nurture children as well as their professional training. Many of our teachers have degrees in education or child development. Continuing education is provided to ensure that our staff is knowledgeable on the latest and most effective teaching strategies. All staff members are certified in CPR and first aid.

Parents are important partners in the educational development of their children and are a welcome part of our program. There are many opportunities for parent involvement. Membership in the PEO (Parent Enrichment Organization) is a benefit of enrollment.
